What is this?
This blog is a resource catcher/repository for all things organ... organ meaning the King of all instruments, not your heart and lung organs.
In early 2009 I was called as a ward organist in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the beginning I played the piano, but after attending a Stake Organ Training workshop I really wanted to start playing the organ. I decided to try. It meant that if I messed up EVERYONE would be able to notice and it would be 10 times louder, but I felt that organ music makes such a difference and adds to the congregation's ability to worship Heavenly Father during Sacrament meeting.
As I've practiced and learned little by little, many people have mentioned to me that they love singing with the organ and I'm so glad that it makes a difference in their worship.
As I've tried to glean more information about the organ (stops, pedals, manuals, expression pedals) I've found that there is a lot of info available; however, a lot of it is more than light reading. The resources I've found are courses, instruction manuals, hymns written for organ, and more. These resources are hard to digest in one sitting, so I need a repository. I thought "what better place than a blog" so that others can find all of these resources too.
Feel free to comment (though I reserve the right to remove any comments at my own discretion) and tell everyone which resources are REALLY helpful, or REALLY NOT helpful.
If you would like to recommend other organ resources feel free to share. Please remember though to provide credit where credit is due, cite the author and where you obtained the info, anything someone writes is their property and subject to copyright laws, even if there isn't a copyright symbol or statement.
Just so everyone is aware, I am not a professional organist, I am a beginner. I hope this blog will help other organists (or those who want to be an organist) find great resources to help them in their journey.
